This Alexandrian bronze obol belongs to Series 2D. It is control linked to the precious metal coinage, but more intimately than other known bronze issues, and so requires assignment to a new subseries, Subseries -1, with the primary control P. This obol reproduces both controls of a contemporary tetradrachm (CPE 137) and is the only known Alexandrian bronze to do so. It apparently reflects an initial intention to link the bronze coinage very closely to the precious metal coinage, and specifically to the tetradrachms. Accordingly it can be dated to the early stages of the currency reform of 294 BC.
